Yes...all transphobia aside, she is advertising in no uncertain terms that she is available to you. the conversation must start somewhere and i doubt you'll find a safer place to start trusting. don't miss this opportunity based on transphobia, yours or anyone else's. much love and hope. pj |

Don't do it, just think of the poor guys who have not had the chance to hit it yet, and you want to get rid of it |

Nope. counselors and administrators hardly help any problems. Most of the time they're the cause of problems for LGBT youth. |

Maybe. Will she respect your confidentiality? If not are you OK with the possibility she may inform your parents, or other school administrators. If you are not OK with that then no you should not at this time. If you feel she will respect your private information then yes by all means talk to her. drbecky.com/ therapists.html I see the Thumbs Down Brigade has arrived. |

I agree with Paula. Take advantage of this resource, but proceed with caution. You may want to first discuss your counselor's views on transgendered people before you say that YOU have a problem. You can always use the, "I'm asking for my friend " approach. If you are concerned about confidentiality, but still need to speak to someone, you can ask for a meeting with the school psychologist, although that may require your parent's consent. You could also consider talking to your family doctor, who has to keep your medical conversations private. |

You should talk to her. she will probably get your parents attention on it first but im sure after that she will help you get a good therapist and such. |

I was in the same boat as you in high school, and I'm really not much further now (I'm 22) because it took me a long time to ask someone for help. It's definitely not something to do alone, or without some awesome people in your life. I have some followup questions for you, such as what other resources are you in touch with, if any? and how comfortable are with your situation? I would also ask you to examine your family situation, that's always a tough one, but I believe that a school counselor is a good place to start, trust your gut, it's usually right. Your counselor also has to respect your confidentiality...by law, so don't let that deter you from talking to her. She may not, however, be able to put you in touch with some gender therapists, but may have some contacts to local GLBT youth centers or other youth development centers that can help you. I would also suggest taking advantage of the wide range of support offered on the internet, it's an amazing resource filled with a lot of amazing people. I always like to make myself available to people, so feel free to email me (anonymous_turtle@hotmail.com). Good Luck! |
