I'm really curious how many of the population disagrees with this? Have any ever gotten married? would you date one that is bisexual? are people generally born to choose to be transgenders or just uncomfortable with the gender and chose to be both or opposite? I am just ridiculousy curious... PS. I am thinking of becoming a male not sure yet but I am going to have some council help to clear my mind first.. |

It is hard to judge how much of the population disagrees. in most of japan, trns is 100% A-OK. in many other places, it is horrifying. and even then, there are splits in who is ok with it, and not. yes, trans get married, you just cant tell becuse they blend so well. yes, i would date trans, i am trans myself tho so i guess it doesnt count. but there re still a sh!tload of girls AND guys who wnt to date me, who are fully aware of my trans-ness. it can happen either way, but it is generally something the person is born with that begins to become more and more prominent as time wears on, with the person it affects becoming more & more aware. |

No, I have never gotten married, and I'd date anyone if I felt attracted to them as a person. Dating doesn't mean you are going to have sex. Transgenderism is an umbrella term that encompasses many different forms of gender expression. Gender expression is a CHOICE, but gender is not. You are either male or female in your mind, and how you choose to present yourself to the world is up to you. People do not change gender or float in between the two (though it may sometimes appear that way.) Many types of gender expression are harmless. Most crossdressers do not feel conflicted about their gender or sexuality, and the Transgender expression is actually pleasant. The same thing goes for many other types of Transgenderism (Drag for instance), however some people are uncomfortable with their sexuality, or their gender, and they use the various forms of gender expression to cope with that discomfort. Sometimes this works, and sometimes it doesn't. For Transsexual people, the feelings of gender dysphoria (having the wrong body) are so debilitating, that they must correct their bodies (or die trying.) If a person feels their body is not the correct gender, they can surgically and hormonally modify it to resemble as closely as possible the gender they feel themselves to be. People who feel this way are suffering from a birth condition known as Transsexualism. Transsexualism occurs in the womb when the body gender develops opposite from the brain gender. You don't have a say in it, it just happens. Because it is a physical condition, and not a mental disorder, Transsexualism is correctable, just like a cleft palate or clubbed foot. It is included under the umbrella of Transgenderism, but it really is quite different because it is not a form of gender expression, it's a physical condition that PREVENTS a person from expressing their true gender. Once the condition is corrected, the person is no longer considered to be transgendered because they are now able to express their true gender, which also means they no longer suffer from Transsexualism. It is wise to speak to a GENDER THERAPIST (not an ordinary psychologist) if you feel you might be suffering from Transsexualism. This isn't something you can bury or turn off. It doesn't go away, and will generally get worse with time. |

I am an MTF and I know several FTMs. We all knew we had a body/ brain mismatch from the beginning. Many of us go through a denial phase. I got married and had a daughter as part of my denial phase. You need to see a therapist with experience or at least training in Gender Indentity Disorder. |

There were some physiological studies showing brain differences but still inconclusive due to sample size. Also even if the brain differences hold true, is it nature or nurture? Makes no difference IMO. Why would a person (thinking MTF) choose to maintain two separate sets of wardrobe and usually have to go through the hassle of hiding the female items? |
